I am sitting in my dark house, working on getting some new listings up in my shop with iTunes on shuffle and Wilco's On and On and On came on... and I remembered this amazing video made by high school students I saw back in the summer that uses a mix of old family videos and hand drawn animation. I think it's beautiful.
Then Cass McCombs song County Line came on. I'm a total sucker for that sad, nostalgic, rhythm.
Oh yeah, and I put up some new pieces up on my shop today.
As I mentioned in yesterday's post, I was going to give the baby-led weaning approach a try, rather than feeding Ivy moosh with a spoon, as I had been doing for the past few weeks. Ivy had some bread, apple and banana. Needless to say, it was messy.
And for dinner she played around with a big cracker and more apple. She's getting the hang of picking up the little pieces and really likes squishing and rubbing the food around. Crossing my fingers this means she'll love playing around with drawing and painting when she's a little older.
Don't worry. That's not poop, it's prunes. :)
As Ivy was eating and I was making dinner for Joe and I was rocking out to Dizzee Rascal, which brought me back to the times when I would blast him, or MIA or Deerhoof or other crazy jams while getting ready to go out, putting on makeup, trying on a multitude of outfits... clothes flying everywhere, drinking a tall can.

And looking at my old amp sitting in my living room, surrounded by baby paraphernalia. The amp was at the practice space where my old band, Librarian's Touch, practiced. I left it there for more than a year. I think I was in denial that I no longer had the time to play music.
i love you Traynor!
Amy and I back in our "Librarian's Touch" days
I haven't really mentioned this on here, and I don't often talk about it unless someone asks me, but I used to play in a few really loud, noisey and psychedelic bands that did some touring and released records, The Sick Lipstick, Fox the Boombox and Black Cat #13. I had so much crazy fun back then, and although I don't miss those times, when I look around at my new baby-themed house I can't believe my eyes!
I hope that Ivy will be interested in learning to play music. I just spied this awesome ukulele that I know she'd love...
Our wee bebe is getting bigger and I'm getting crankier and way more absent minded and distractible. It's been cooler in Toronto for the past week or so, which has been heavenly for me.
I'm just working on my labour playlist.
I just added some Arthur Russell to the mix. So far I've got some Joanna Newsom, Sea and Cake, Nick Drake, Will Olham/Bonnie Prince Billy, Wilco and a whole whack of Kraftwerk. I have no idea why my mind is telling me to put Kraftwerk on there... I think it's the bebe's choice. I think she'll hate sappy Wilco just like her daddy. Oh yeah, and Brenda Ray is on my list. So dreamy...
I've been cooking up a storm
and filling my freezer with meals. I just made some curried Swiss chard, lentil and chick pea stew. I found the recipe here, on Epicurious. I love Epicurious for the recipe reviews, which I get modification tips from.
Last week I made a meaty bolognaise pasta sauce, my own improvised chili recipe that I've been working on for years, modified from my dad's recipe....
I met up with some of my peeps at my favourite brunch spot Aunties and Uncles. They have incredible omelettes and amazing dilly potato salad that they service with a few black olives. YUMMY! Joe and I went to St. Lawrence market later in the afternoon to get some fresh peaches, then we walked around the CNE before going to a TFC game. I had a fabulous alcohol-free birthday.
